Yoav’s Bio

Yoav Lurie is Director of Strategy and New Business Development at Synteractive, a strategy and business solutions consulting firm based in Washington.  In this role, his primary responsibilities include developing new business firm-wide, engaging in strategic client challenges, and serving on the firm’s senior leadership team.  Previous to this role, Yoav lead the firm’s Communities practice, working with not-for-profit and grassroots organizations

Yoav was instrumental in the firm’s July 2009 award of the redevelopment contract for Recovery.gov; the federal website and data-management system charged with monitoring waste, fraud, and abuse in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the 2009 economic stimulus package passed by Congress).  Yoav crafted the project’s overarching vision, managed partner relationships, and developed the social media and Web 2.0 strategy.

Prior to joining Synteractive, Yoav served as the Managing Director for Development in Teach For America's Metro D.C. region.  During his tenure, Yoav and his team achieved successive triple-digit year-over-year growth.  In the 2008 fiscal year, his team raised over $8.5M in cash and pledges—over 50% of the region’s total 17 year fundraising total.

Before Teach For America, Yoav started and ran a risk mitigation and insurance program for Jewish Federations and JCCs at the Redwoods Group, a socially-responsible, commercial insurance provider for child-serving non-profits.  At Redwoods, Yoav was a founding member of the firm’s  charitable arm - the Redwoods Community Foundation. The foundation’s work was cited as the Wall Street Journal’s primary reason for naming the company one of America’s top 15 small businesses in 2008.

Yoav Lurie holds a B.A. in Public Policy Studies from Duke University, with foci in Markets & Management and Leadership & Ethics.  While at Duke, Yoav founded the second chapter of Camp Kesem, a free summer camp for the children of cancer patients.  He later helped grow the organization to 22 campuses nation-wide, serving as interim national Executive Director and on its board of directors.
